Senator John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier married in Newport, Rhode Island on September 12, 1953. The future First Lady wore a ivory silk ball gown by designer Ann Lowe. Just 10 days before the wedding ceremony, a water line broke in Lowe's New York City studio and ruined the bridal gown along with all 10 pink bridesmaids dresses. Lowe worked tirelessly to recreate all 11 designs in time. The iconic gown featured a portrait neckline, off the shoulder sleeves, and a voluminous textured skirt that emphasized the bride's slim waist.
